Rocket
Rocket is the newest member of the Adventure Dogs, joining us in July 2025 when he was about four months old. Coincedenly, I was already thinking about getting another dog and had been browsing the local shelter’s website when a friend told me, “I have the perfect dog for you.”
Her mom had just witnessed a man kicking a dog while out driving. She pulled over, yelled at him to stop, and after a short back-and-forth, threatening to call the police, he dropped the leash and told her to take him. She did, but with four dogs already at home, they couldn’t keep him.
When I first saw his picture, my immediate reaction was, “No way—that breed is crazy.” I’d seen way too many videos about how intense they can be. But after doing some research, I started to think he might actually be a great fit for our adventures as long as he and Zoe got along.
Their first meeting made the decision easy. Within five minutes, they were calmly hanging out, and not long after, they found a rope toy and started playing like they’d known each other forever. At that point, there was no way I wasn’t taking him home.
Zoe and Rocket couldn’t be more different, but somehow they balance each other perfectly. Since joining us, Rocket has already been on several hikes and two camping trips. Looking back now, it’s hard to believe I ever hesitated, he fits in like he was always meant to be part of the Adventure Dogs.
